If you’re a gym newbie, it can be very confusing to understand what is my body type. There are many different types of people who train in gyms and fitness centers, and all have different traits as far as build bodies are concerned. There are basically three main body categories, which are influenced and defined entirely by genetics: Endomorph, Ectomorph and Mesomorph. Each body category builds muscle at varying rates, and also burns fat at varying rates. Elongated Shoulder Body Measurement – People who are the ectomorph have wide shoulders. The formula for this body type is shoulder x hip x leg length. To determine your shoulders, just add in your shoulders and that will give you your total shoulder height. From there, you will want to add an inch to your hip height and that will give you your elongated shoulders.

High Endomorph – People who are the over-endomorph have a straight spine, narrow shoulders, small chest and hips and a rounded belly button. The formula for this body type is shoulder x hip x leg length. To determine your high endomorph measurements, simply add in your hips and that will give you your high endomorph height. You may notice that the formula is different than what is described above. The reason is that high endomorphs have wide shoulders, not hips and shoulders.

Low Endomorph – People who are the low ectomorph have a straight spine, small shoulders and large hips. The formula for this body type is shoulder x hip x leg length. This will give you your low ectomorph height. Also, keep in mind that although low ectomorphs may have a narrow waistline, that does not mean they do not have great abs.

Knowing your body types can help you choose clothes that fit properly. For instance, if you are petite, then you do not want to wear a style that has a lot of deep pockets or is too baggy around the bottom. Likewise, if you are a heavier woman, you do not want to wear something too tight because it will accentuate your problem areas. Hourglass Shape – Also known as the “I’m All About You” body type, women with this body type have wide shoulders. They have a pear-shaped bust and hips. Women with this body type often have good upper body strength.

Apple Shape – Also known as the “I’m Easy Pickings” body types, women with this body type tend to be very slim with narrow shoulders. They tend to have a skinny build but have very few muscles in their chest area. They also tend to gain muscle very slowly, sometimes being just average.

Pear Shaped – Women with this body type have wide shoulders. They have well-defined shoulders but their hips are wide as well. This means their waistline is usually thinner than their hips. Their busts are as well-defined as their hips. Women with this body type often have average or good physical fitness levels. They tend to gain muscle easily and have nice physiques.
